Welcome to my website. Its purpose is to introduce you to my research and capacity building work, as well as to make many of my publications open accessible
I am an urban social anthropologist and social policy specialist with more than forty yearsâ€™ experience in academic research, teaching and training. Recent research has focused on the assets of the urban poor, their accumulation and poverty reduction; their adaptation to climate change; their transnational accumulation associated with international migration; and finally the implementation of asset planning in cities of the south. It also includes extensive research on urban violence, most recently as the principal investigator of a four city project on â€˜Understanding the tipping points of urban conflictâ€™. Recent projects have used participatory research methodology â€“ with capacity building of local researchers undertaken in Colombia, Chile and Kenya, and currently in a global project undertaken by WIEGO.
